Al-Mustapha: How the Security Architecture Have Militarized the Police & Demilitarizing the Military

“Any country that goes ahead to employ both the military and the police on the same ground for so long, such is a country that is doomed to be destabilized.”

While delivering his key note lecture on security challenges in Nigeria and the need for national integration in Kaduna state on Thursday, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (Chief Security Officer to former Head of State, General Sani Abacha), made it clear that the security architecture in Nigeria may have succeeded in militarizing the police because the police begins to act like the military.

“The fact is that the police are not supposed to work hand in hand or side by side with the military, else, they begin to act like the military that’s why police brutality is rampant as we can see the evidence from news coming from EndSARS protesters and elsewhere. Meanwhile, our soldiers that ought to be brutal in war against insurgency are found fleeing away from their responsibilities.

There is always a limit to how long the military can work alongside with the police in trying to maintain law and order. Failure will have the military demilitarized like the police and then, the police militarized just as the military.Content created and supplied by Pan-African_Broadcast.Opera News is a free to use platform and the views and opinions expressed herein are solel
