The Executive Gov of Zamfara state and Chairman Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Hon Dr Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar today received certificate of return as Senator- elect representing Zamfara West, by the Independent National Electoral commission, Abuja.
Gov Yari who contested and won the Zamfara West Senatorial seat with 153,626 votes to represent the senatorial district comprising 6 local government areas of Anka, Bakura, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Maradun and Talata Mafara defeated his main challenger Lawali Hassan Anka of the PDP who scored 69, 293 votes.
The certificate of return which was presented to Gov Yari along with senators – elect Ikra Aliyu Bilbis and Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, as well as all the 7 members of House of Representatives – elect for the 7 federal constituencies of Zamfara state, Hon Ibrahim Mohammad Dan madame Birnin Magaji, Hon Ahmad Sharu Anka, Hon Umar Jibo Bukkuyum, Hon Muhammadu Muttaka Rini, Hon Husaini Abubakar Moriki, Hon Sanusi Garba Rikiji and Hon Abdulmalik Zubairu Bungudu, at the International Coference Centre Abuja, was performed by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral commission, Prof Mahmoud Yakubu.
The occasion which gathered large crowd of supporters from all the 14 local government areas of Zamfara state, was also colourful amidst thousands of other supporters and well wishers from across Nigeria.
Gov Yari later received hundreds of well wishers who trooped into his Maitama Abuja residence to congratulate him for the huge successes he has recorded.
Gov Yari also use the medium to thank the people of Zamfara state for their support, cooperation, patience, understanding and prayers throughout the period of electioneering campaign, legal tussle and the general elections.
He said he would ever remain grateful to them and would be their good ambassador at the National Assembly, as he was, when he served them as Member of the House of Representatives, representing Anka /Mafara Federal Constituency.
Gov Yari said the focus, vision and understanding of the people of Zamfara state have helped him a lot in his efforts to provide them with dividend of democracy and other necessities of life for the development of the state.
He therefore urged them to always be vigilant and law-abiding citizens as well continue to help security agents working in the with intelligence to help in tackling security challenges facing the state.
