KADSIPA, UNICEF, Stakeholders Move to Validate Costed Plan for Social Protection in Kaduna

By Ehis Agbon, Kaduna, Nigeria

In a decisive step toward enhancing the welfare of vulnerable populations, the Kaduna State Social Investment Programme (KADSIPA), in collaboration with key stakeholders and with support from UNICEF, has developed a costed implementation plan for the state’s Social Protection Policy.

The plan, which outlines strategic priorities, timelines, and funding frameworks, is designed to improve the delivery and coordination of social protection interventions across Kaduna State. It targets underserved groups including children, women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

To ensure inclusiveness and technical rigor, a two-day validation workshop is scheduled to hold on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th July, 2025, at the Budget and Planning Commission office in Kaduna. The workshop will bring together experts, policymakers, civil society groups, and donor representatives to review and endorse the draft document.

According to organizers, the validation process is a crucial step in finalizing a workable plan that aligns with Kaduna State’s development goals while also reflecting national and global best practices in social protection.

KADSIPA, established to coordinate the state’s social investment programmes, has in recent years implemented various poverty reduction schemes, including conditional cash transfers, school feeding, and support for youth and women. However, the absence of a harmonized and adequately funded implementation roadmap has often limited the impact of these initiatives.

Speaking ahead of the workshop, a representative of the Planning Commission emphasized that the costed plan will not only improve targeting and efficiency but also ensure accountability and sustainability in the use of resources.

The involvement of UNICEF is expected to further strengthen technical inputs, especially in the areas of child-sensitive social protection and gender equity.

Stakeholders are optimistic that the validation of the plan will pave the way for improved service delivery, reduced poverty, and stronger institutional coordination — marking a new chapter in Kaduna State’s commitment to inclusive development.
