Kaduna State has recorded a remarkable leap on the Nigeria Climate Governance Ranking, moving from 16th position in 2024 to 3rd place in the 2025 edition. The ranking, which evaluates states’ performance in climate policy implementation, environmental protection, and sustainability efforts, placed Lagos and Katsina in first and second positions respectively.

The impressive progress was attributed to the visionary leadership of Governor Senator Uba Sani and the commitment of the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Honourable Abubakar Buba, whose team has spearheaded impactful climate policies and sustainable development initiatives across Kaduna.

Reacting to the new ranking, the state government expressed pride in the achievement, describing it as a testament to the administration’s dedication to building a greener, more resilient Kaduna.

“This milestone reflects the unwavering dedication of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, and our entire climate governance team in driving impactful climate policies and sustainable development across the state,” the statement read.

The government also extended appreciation to climate-focused civil society organizations, environmental reporters, and other stakeholders whose collaboration and advocacy have strengthened the state’s climate resilience.

With this achievement, Kaduna State continues to position itself as a leader in environmental governance and sustainability in Northern Nigeria, setting a strong example for other subnational governments committed to tackling climate change.
