Late Maitama Sule: An iconic nationalist, loved Nigeria – Wamakko

AS condolences continue to pour ‎in for late Dan Masanin Kano, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Sule, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko(APC -Sokoto North) has on Wednesday expressed deep shock, describing the former Diplomat as an iconic nationalist who lived a worthy life with utmost love for Nigeria.

Wamakko’s condolence message was contained in a release signed and issued to newsmen in Sokoto by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani.
‎The release said:” the late Dan Masanin Kano was a foremost elder statesman, frontline nationalist, astute educationalist, outstanding Diplomat and an upright politician.

” As a presidential aspirant of the defunct National Party of Nigeria
( NPN), the late Maitama Sule exhibited a high sense of decorum and humility when he lost to the second republic President, Shehu Shagari in the party’s primaries.

” As the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations,‎ the deceased worked relentlessly to shore up the image of the country,as well as bolster world’s peace and unity.

” As and educationist, he had mentored myriad of leaders for Nigeria in various aspects of human endeavours,” Wamakko, added.

However, the immediate past governor of Sokoto state also paid glowing tributes to the late sage, extolling his invaluable contributions to national development and cohesion.

Hitherto, the lawmaker recalled with nostalgic feel, the immense contributions of the late national Orator when he
worked with the founding Fathers of Nigeria like the late Sardauna of Sokoto and Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Dr Nnamdi Azikwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and the Prime Minister of Nigeria, Sir Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa, extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late patriot, people and government of Kano State, as well as the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The Senator who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary  Education, prayed God to repose the soul of the deceased, as well as grant Nigerians the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
