In his renewed efforts, Sokoto state Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto on Wednesday called on Traditional, Religious leaders, Health officials and Community leaders in the state to support the Measles –Rubella Vaccine exercise.

He said only doing so would ensure the attainment of the set objectives.
Aliyu Sokoto made the call at the flag off of the sensitisation campaign on Measles –Rubella Vaccine in the state.
The event was held at Banquet Hall, Presidential Lodge, Sokoto.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Muhammad Idris Gobir said Measles and Rubella were highly contagious diseases that could cause deafness, blindness, heart defects, brain damage and even death in children at a point.
However, Gobir said that Measles –Rubella Vaccine provides safe and effective protection.
He assured of the state government’s continued investment in immunisation programmes inorder to enhance access to essential healthcare services while noting efforts of development partners in driving responsive support for better healthcare services in the state.
In her remarks, First Lady of the State, Dr Fatima Ahmed Aliyu appealed to wives of chairmen of local government councils to extend the sensitisation programme in their respective areas.
Dr Fatima Aliyu explained that the commitment was aimed at ensuring that all eligible children received the vaccines inorder to ensure healthy future leaders.
In his welcome remarks , the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno expressed appreciation while acknowledging the support being received by the Ministry from the State Government.
He said the commitment has greatly assisted the Ministry to achieve successes in many of its activities.
Meanwhile , the signing of an agreement letter between the State government and the North -West Zonal coordinator C-Wins further deepened the strategic commitment of the stakeholders.
