N-Power Build: CORBON trains 10,000 young Nigerians in Sokoto – Opaluwa

IN its bid to arrest the phenomenon of building collapse as well change the unemployment narrative as well ensure quality , standards and competence in the building industry , the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria under it’s CORBON – N-Power Build project, says it has trained no fewer than 10,000 Sokoto young men and women in the last three years.

It said the drive was aimed at strengthening focus on trainees to learn,achieve proficiency, expertise and required badic knowledge with certification by CORBON against building collapse.

Mr Samson Opaluwa, National Chairman, Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria made the disclosure on Wednesday at the flag off of the state Batch C1 Monitoring and Evaluation Unit.

He said the initiative being anchored by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development was a milestone with positive testimonies towards improving the lives of young schooled and unschooled Nigerians especially those within the unemployment bracket.

According to him, no trainee will be neglected at the end of the exercise, assuring that ” we are equally reviewing our Act and working with relevant laws to ensure artisans, trainees safety , remuneration as well they get registered and recognised accordingly.

” We want to ensure that artisans are knowledge driven for competence and value addition to selves and to move the country forward.”

He noted that given the desired conducive environment for the project to impact beneficiaries and actualise the FG dream through its N-Power initiative, trainers and trainees would turn around Nigeria for good in the construction and building industry sub-sector of the economy.

He further decried the spate of building collapse describing the phenomenon as draw back and unhealthy for investors, workers in the industry and the country’s image in particular.

” This is why the Council has deliberately offered to support the FG N- Power Build drive towards changing the narratives by ensuring active engagement and involvement of young Nigerians for efficient performance .

“The Council is also stepping up to ensure objective and indepth assessment of building sites meet laid down regulations and laws bordering on quality control and standards in accordance with best practices”, he pointed out.

Opaluwa explained that observing the basics of designing a responsive framework for maintaining standards, building codes and laws was imperative to avoid the frequent recurrence of building collapse ” it will greatly help to stop the phenomenon

Also, the state implementation committee chairman of CORBON, Shehu Ahmad noted that the drive to facilitate training of young men and women in the state was a good omen that would launch the unemployed to the next level of self development .

He said the trainees were resilient , committed and industrious .

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries were symbolically presented with builders kids.
