The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced its plan to mobilize students to participate in the massive ‘Free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’ protest scheduled for October 20, 2025.

NANS President, Atiku Isah, disclosed this development in a statement released on Monday, noting that the resolution was reached during a NANS executive meeting he chaired. The association stated that the mobilization is part of a collective demand for justice, civil rights, and democratic accountability in Nigeria.
The students’ planned protest coincides with the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which has led to the shutdown of Nigerian government-owned universities since Monday.
The protest on October 20, 2025, was initially announced by former presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore as a march to the Presidential Villa to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services since his rearrest in Kenya in June 2021.
