1. President Muhammadu Buhari will has conferred National Honours on president-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima. Tinubu and Shettima were conferred with the National Honours of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) and Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON). The investiture which took place at the State House Conference Center in Abuja, is part of a series of events lined up for the May 29 inauguration ceremony. Expected also to happen today is an official handover of Transition Documents to the incoming Administration, a process that some believe will be the most organized and seamless Presidential Transition in the history of Nigeria, enabled by Executive Order 14 signed by President Buhari. 2. A former governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah Jang has decried the unending killings taking place in Southern Kaduna and Plateau State. Jang made the lamentation during the burial of the late mother of Vision Pioneer, Throneroom Trust Ministry Kafanchan, Apostle Emmanuel Nuhu Kure. Mama Asabaru Nuhu Kure died on Saturday at the age of 95. She was buried on Tuesday. But speaking during the burial, Jang said the killings in Southern Kaduna and Plateau State is condemnable, calling on the people to present everything to God. LEADERSHIP

3. The Federal Government says Nigerians can now request their commercial banks to issue them with a debit card which doubles as their National Identity Card at no extra cost. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Pantami, who disclosed this in Abuja, said the approval was obtained at the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC). He explained that the approval followed a memo from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) allowing banks to print multipurpose debit cards that double as National identity cards. 4. A Nigerian missionary priest working in Gambia, Fr Kelvin Ugwu has accused the United Kingdom (UK) government of fleecing Africans of their money in the name of testing for English proficiency. Ugwu frowned at the UK government’s attempt to make it look as if they are doing Africans a favour to study in their country. The cleric claimed that the UK gains more from Africans, insisting it Ii they who need Africans more instead. In a statement via his verified Facebook page on Thursday, the Catholic Priest alleged that the UK benefits from the bad leadership in African countries, claiming they encourage flawed elections. 5. Popular Afrobeat Musician, Seun Kuti, has headed for Switzerland to start a European summer tour after cross with Nigerian Police Force. According to reports, Seun flew to Switzerland on Air France with his band members on Wednesday night to commence his tour in Europe. Recall that the music star was imprisoned for allegedly assaulting a police officer in uniform, and recently released on bail after court trials. VANGUARD

6. Federal government has inaugurated the new board members of the National Institute for Sports (NIS) with a view to providing effective governance and policy direction for the institution in line with the enabling instrument that established it. The minister of sports and youth development, Mr. Sunday Dare, while inaugurating the board in his office in Abuja yesterday, called on them to bring their wealth of experience to bear in ensuring the realisation of the mission and mandate of the institute. Darre observed that the institution was topmost in Africa for sports administration before it suddenly lost its glory, but expressed optimism that with the commitment of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Administration to sports development in the country as well as the appointment of seasoned sports administrators into the new Board, “i believe the Institution will occupy its pride of place in Africa again”. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Wednesday filed papers to launch his 2024 presidential campaign, teeing up 18 months of acrimony as he and Donald Trump lock horns in what is expected to be an attritional contest for the Republican nomination. DeSantis was considered a rising Republican star, but has seen his prospects dented by months of relentless attacks from the former president, who has surged into a commanding lead despite being engulfed in criminal investigations. The 44-year-old right-winger filed his documentation with the Federal Election Commission ahead of a livestreamed Twitter chat with the platform’s billionaire owner Elon Musk, when he expected to make his formal announcement. Pro-DeSantis political organization Never Back Down released a video featuring a 2022 speech setting out his signature issue: the encroachment of political correctness in public life. CHANNELS

8. Renowned rapper Lanre Dabiri, widely known as ElDee The Don, has made a remarkable claim, asserting that his late father pioneered the internet in Nigeria. According to him, his father played a pivotal role in establishing numerous cybercafes and facilitating crucial connections that laid the foundation for internet access in the country. ElDee, in an exclusive interview, an audio and video podcast hosted by Nigerian musician and entrepreneur, Olatunde Owoloye, unveiled the role his father played in introducing the internet to Nigeria. 9. The Department of State Services, DSS, has warned against any attempt to disrupt the May 29 inauguration of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu. DSS warned Nigerians against unruly behaviour and non-adherence to protocols during Tinubu’s inauguration activities. The secret police said any attempt to disrupt the swearing-in will be akin to undermining Nigeria’s security agencies.
