Bulus was crowned “Sarauniyar Sauyin Yanayi Chikun” (Queen of Climate) and “Jakadiyar Sauyin Yanayi Kudendan” (Ambassador of Climate) during a colourful coronation ceremony in Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, Nigeria. The honours were bestowed by His Royal Highness, Ishaku Yari, the Esu Chikun (Sa Gbagyi II), acknowledging her longstanding commitment to combating climate change and empowering vulnerable communities.

Gloria Bulus is an internationally recognised climate advocate and the founder of several grassroots and global initiatives focused on environmental protection, policy advocacy, and climate education. Her work has championed the voices of women and young people in climate-vulnerable regions, particularly across sub-Saharan Africa.

“This honour is not just for me,” Bulus said in her acceptance speech, “it is for every Nigerian fighting to protect our environment and ensure a just and resilient future.”

The royal recognition highlights the growing intersection of traditional leadership and contemporary climate action in Africa, where cultural institutions are increasingly supporting local environmental champions. Speaking at the ceremony, the monarch commended Bulus for her role in inspiring community-led solutions and promoting sustainability at all levels of society.

“Gloria Bulus is not just a leader; she is a movement,” said HRH Ishaku Yari. “Her efforts have touched lives across villages and cities, and her vision continues to mobilise youth and elders alike in the fight for a healthier planet.”

The event brought together traditional rulers, environmentalists, government representatives, and youth organisations from across Kaduna State. It served not only as a tribute to Bulus’ achievements but also as a call to action for greater collaboration between indigenous leadership and climate actors.

As the world intensifies efforts toward climate resilience, Gloria Bulus’ coronation stands as a powerful symbol of African innovation, cultural pride, and unwavering leadership in the global climate movement.
