Sokoto civil servants demand stoppage of salary deductions for National Housing Scheme.

APPARENTLY not comfortable over alleged insincerity of purpose by officials, Sokoto state ‎civil servants on Thursday took a ‘no going back’ decision with a call on the state government to urgently and immediately stop deductions from their salaries for the National Housing Scheme.

The deductions followed the launching of the scheme’s phase I performed in May in the state. The scheme is being anchored by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

The step taken by the supposedly uncomfortable workers who also had been short-listed for the FMBN loan came from a cross section of the workers while addressing newsmen in Sokoto.

The decision which came as a plea from the applicants, who also sought for anonymity said,” this has become
necessary as the bank has proved to be insincere in its loan scheme to civil servants in the state.

” The bank is yet to give loan to half of the five hundred civil servants who had filled their forms for about two tears now.”

Similarly, they said some applicants had signed offers which formed the last process to access the loan facility since March, 2017, but they were yet to be given the money.

” This is in spite of the fact that the bank realized over N 25
million from the monthly deductions of the civil servants.

” We are therefore expressing doubt over the ability of many civil
servants in the state to access the loan.

” This is because the bank has fai;ed to even provide the loan to the
first batch of the applicants of the scheme since 2017,” they, added.

However, efforts to get the comments of the officials of the bank in Sokoto failed to yield results, insisting that they had no powers to speak to the press.
