Sokoto MP sponsors eye medical outreach, targets 1500 patients

No fewer than 1,500 patients with eye related problems have been targeted for treatment at the flag off of a medical outreach sponsored by Hon. Ahmed Abdullahi Kalambaina representing Kware/Wamakko Federal Constituency in Sokoto state.

Speaking, Hon. Ahmed Kalambaina said the initiative was in consideration of the importance of the sight to human life.

According to the lawmaker ” this informed my decision to come up with the eye medical outreach as programm for those suffering from eye related issues to have immediate solutions to their problems.

He said the three-day programm was for Kware /Wamakko constituents irrespective of political divide.

” Is for the people of my constituents and not about politics”, he said.

Kalambaina further disclosed the programm had gulped not less than N20 million in addition to the construction of a N30 million 3 block of classrooms at Durbawa, and provision of Solar Boreholes at Dundaye and Arkilla at the cost of N40 million

Explaining on the programme Dr Mustapha Bature who is on the Team of Consultants for the 3-day exercise being conducted at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital , Kware in Sokoto state said already 500 patients had been screened out of which 25 were undergoing surgery.”

He said the three-day programm was for Kware /Wamakko constituents irrespective of political divide.

” Is for the people of my constituents and not about politics”, he said.

Kalambaina further disclosed the programm had gulped not less than N20 million in addition to the construction of a N30 million 3 block of classrooms at Durbawa, and provision of Solar Boreholes at Dundaye and Arkilla at the cost of N40 million .

” We are targeting 100 Cataract patients for surgery.”

According to Bature who stood in for the Team leader, Professor Nasiru Muhammad said Presbyophia was the commonest eye problem among others which include Glaucoma, Cataract , Trauchcoma, Conjunctivitis and Allergy .

He said most o those that turned out for treatment were elderly and women were more.

” Patients within the age bracket of 40 and above are commonly found with Presbyophia”, he said.

According to him” drugs and glasses including other medications are available.

The Managing Director , Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital Kware and host to the outreach , Professor Shehu Saleh commended the lawmaker for choosing the hospital as centre for the exercise.

” We on our part have successfully embraced the initiative and rendered the necessary support by providing a unit, beds and beddings, stretcher and other basic equipment facilitate the conduct of the three day exercise.

” We are ready to accommodate any other person with similar initiative. Our facility is available all the time”, he assured.

Among the beneficiaries of the eye outreach programm were a set of 70 year old twins, Hassan Muhammad Gidan Fulani Wamakko and Hussaini Muhammad Gidan Fulani Wamakko who went through surgery for Cataract, expressed gratitude for having the opportunity to be treated after 4 years with the ailment.

” Both of us are happy to have this opportunity to be treated today. Our lawmaker will not be forgotten , we pray God to reward Hon. Kalambaina”, they said.
