Sokoto NUJ tasks FG, SOSG on spate of insecurity , ASUU

The Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) Sokoto state Council at the end of its Congress has called on the federal and Sokoto state governments to redouble efforts at addressing the spate of insecurity in the state and country as a whole.

It also sought government to expedite action in tackling the trend of rural-urban migration, increased child street and hike in the number of displaced persons, forced by the aggravated insecurity in the country, with northern states most affected.

In a communique jointly signed and issued by its Chairman , Dalhatu Aminu S/ Magori and Secretary , Muhammad Nasir Bello , the union also urged the federal government and ASUU to critically consider quick and amicable resolution of the prolonged strike to allow for students’ return to classes in order to avoid their involvement in crimes, thereby increasing crime rate in the society.

The union further appreciated the federal and Sokoto state government as well as security agencies for their relentless efforts toward addressing security challenges across the state.

The communique also urged registered eligible voters yet to collect their voters card to do so to avoid been disenfranchised while remindo.g politicians of the need to ensure peaceful electioneering process before, during and after elections.

It hitherto, on state of the union, the communique warned members to remain apolitical and avoid the temptation of being used for blackmail and character assassination for undue favour from politicians as the 2023 general elections draws closer.

It also advised members who were yet to revalidate their membership to do so, hence be up to date in both dues and Identity Cards with immediate effect in order to avoid embarrassment.

” Members should uphold the confidence of the people by maintaining objectivity, embrace all and be professionally organised, warning that the union would not be there for any member that intentionally violates ethics for personal aggrandizement”, the union urged.

It also tasks the Sokoto state government to prevail on owners of A.A Rano and Nura Kure filing stations, along Gusau road to construct drainage in order to control the recurrent flash flood by the stations just as it appealed for the evacuation of refuse dumps within the Abu Dankure Meat and Vegetable market as well as fill up the potholes at all roundabouts within the metropolis.
