Sokoto police kill two bandits , arrest kidnappers, robbers

The police in Sokoto on Friday confirmed killing two bandits in a gun duel with its team of operatives at the Yabo-Sanyinna axis forest when the group attempted to launch a heinous operation.

Mr Ibrahim Ka’oje, Commissioner of Police in the state disclosed the break-through during a briefing at the state command headquarters.

He said the AK 49 rifles and some rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

” They were making arrangement to launch their routine operation when our men received a distress call o that effect and quickly responded. “

According to Ka’oje ” In he early part of December 4 at about 00.05 hours, a team of operatives attached o the SCID, Sokoto received a distress call that a group of bandits were set to execute an operation around Yabo-Sanyinna forest axis and the operatives immediately proceeded to the area where they discovered the bandits in military camouflage and engaged them in a gun duel leading to the killing of two of the bandits while others fled with bullets wounds.”

He said investigations were ongoing to further gather more information on the foiled operation by the bandits.

Similarly, Ka’oje confirmed the arrest of seven armed robbery suspects allegedly connected to an attack on a house in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state.

According to the police commissioner, ” they demanded N25 million from the owner of the house at gun point while armed with matchets.

In the same vein , Ka’oje disclosed the arrest of two kidnappers following the gallant efforts of a vigilante group which handed the duo to the command.

” Though, one of the suspected kidnappers died in the hospital “, Ka’oje confirmed.

However, Ka’oje said the command remain resolute in combating crime and criminals across he state while appealing to the public to remain vigilant and continue to support and assist the police in its renewed drive to rid the state and nation of bad eggs.
