The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, recording a 58.67 per cent pass rate among candidates who secured five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

Announcing the performance figures on Thursday at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Professor Dantani Wushishi disclosed that 804,948 candidates met the core requirement out of the 1,371,992 candidates who sat for the examination. Overall registration stood at 1,378,048, comprising 682,352 males and 695,696 females.
Professor Wushishi further revealed that 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70 per cent, secured five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.
The 2026 examination was administered across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside six international centers located in Benin Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, and Saudi Arabia. The examination took place between June 15 and July 23, 2026, followed by marking operations conducted from August 17 to September 4.
Addressing examination integrity, the Registrar reported a 64.74 per cent decline in examination malpractice, with 1,406 candidates implicated in 2026 compared to 3,878 cases recorded in 2025. Wushishi attributed the reduction to enhanced monitoring, technological refinements, and inter-agency collaboration with security personnel.
He also noted that 1,334 candidates with special needs sat for the examination, reaffirming the Council’s commitment to inclusive assessment frameworks.
