Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested 20 suspects for their alleged involvement in vote buying and other electoral offences during the Federal Capital Territory area council elections held on Saturday.

The anti-graft agency announced the development in a statement shared on its official X handle on Sunday evening, noting that over 17.2 million naira in cash was recovered during the exercise.
According to the commission, the arrests took place across several area councils for crimes including vote buying, vote selling, and the obstruction of law enforcement officers. Specifically, the agency intercepted 17,218,700 naira meant for voter inducement.
The operations led to the apprehension of two suspects in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and four in Kwali as part of a coordinated effort to maintain the integrity of the electoral process across the territory.
