Following a meeting with the Ambrose Alli University (AAU) student leadership, an initial group of seven suspects was freed after being confirmed as genuine students.
The Governor clarified that the unrest, which involved arson and looting, was perpetrated by “hoodlums” and non-students rather than the university body.
While verified students are being released to the SUG President, the state government maintains that criminal elements who hijacked the protest will remain in custody to face prosecution.
