Former Provost of the College of Education, Ilesa—now the University of Education, Ilesa, Osun State—Professor Kolawole Kola-Kazeem, has described the recent error by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as a clear case of human failure. He emphasized the need for accountability to prevent future occurrences.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Professor Kola-Kazeem underscored the emotional toll the incident has had, citing a viral moment of a 70-year-old man crying on live television as a powerful reflection of the crisis.
“That should speak volumes,” he said. “It shows the depth of the problem. This is clearly a human error, and those responsible for these infractions must face consequences. One of our major challenges is that infractions often go unpunished. That must change.”
He also stressed the unjust impact the incident has had on students, many of whom have been affected through no fault of their own.
“Some children have been punished unnecessarily and unjustifiably,” he noted. “We must ensure that such errors are not repeated. The Registrar should be supported in implementing necessary reforms to avoid future lapses.”
