The suit, filed on Friday, January 16, 2026, seeks to compel the officials to account for billions of naira spent as “security votes” since May 29, 2023.
SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, stated that despite over N400 billion being budgeted annually for security votes, persistent violence—including the recent Benue massacre—continues to plague the nation.
The organization is asking the court to mandate public disclosure of how these funds are utilized and to provide detailed reports on projects aimed at improving security infrastructure.
