Sudan’s foreign ministry, which remains aligned with the national armed forces, stated that Uganda violated international law by welcoming the paramilitary leader whose forces have been accused of committing widespread atrocities during the country’s ongoing civil war.
The denunciation follows an announcement by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who confirmed he met with the commander, commonly known as Hemedti, at his presidential residence in Entebbe on Friday.
While the Sudanese government expressed outrage, Museveni maintained that the meeting was part of his role as an African Union mediator.
The Ugandan president stated that he used the opportunity to emphasize the necessity of a peaceful political solution to end the conflict between Sudan’s military and the Rapid Support Forces.
