In a bid to restore peace in the ancient city of Calabar, the former Governor of Cross River State, Mr Donald Duke moved around major hot spots in the communities and streets to inspect the extent of the damages of destruction, he also spoke with the restive youths on the need to embrace peace and protect Calabar, their heritage, from further destruction.
Duke said his presence was to compliment the efforts of His Excellency, Senator Prof Ben Ayade who is advocating for peace around the Calabar Metropolis and as the Governor cannot be everywhere at the same time, he came to help transmit the Governor’s call for an end to the destruction of properties & livelihoods. “This is the time to seek solutions and not to apportion blame to anyone, we the leaders need to engage the youth and understand their anger. My brother and friend, Prof Ben Ayade cannot be left alone at this critical moment of restoring peace to Calabar.
It is our collective responsibility and the sacred duty of anyone that has ever held a leadership position in Cross River State, For that reason I came down here to meet you all and to seek an end to this crisis” he said.
He lamented about the rate of Infrastructural destruction by saying the youth could have done better if they had used any other means besides the destruction of private homes and businesses.
Several hotspot Communities were visited as the youths assured HE Ayade through HE Duke that they would protect their neighborhoods and communities.
