In a late-night television broadcast, Security Minister Mahamadou Sana revealed that the attack was scheduled to take place on the night of January 3, 2026.
Officials have accused Paul-Henri Damiba, the former military officer who was removed from power by Traoré in 2022, of being the mastermind behind the operation.
The government claims the plan involved attacking the president at his home with explosives or a direct assault, while also attempting to destroy the nation’s drone base to allow for a foreign-backed invasion.
The minister further alleged that the plot was partly funded by Ivory Coast, though neither Damiba nor the Ivorian government has commented on these serious accusations.
