The internet was restored on Sunday, January 18, 2026, just hours after Museveni was declared the winner of his seventh term, though the Uganda Communications Commission stated that social media remains restricted to prevent the spread of misinformation and safeguard public order.

While parts of the capital, Kampala, experienced small-scale protests and the use of tear gas late Saturday, the city has since seen a significant decrease in security presence, with businesses reopening and residents returning to the streets.
