This significant rise follows the team’s successful outing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where they secured the bronze medal under coach Eric Chelle.

During the ranking window, Nigeria won six of their seven matches, falling only to Morocco in a penalty shootout during the semi-finals.

The tournament also sparked a historic surge for Morocco, who broke into the top 10 (8th place) for the first time since 1998, while champions Senegal rose seven spots to 12th.

Nigeria’s current standing is their best since May 2010, when the team reached 21st in the world.
