The family of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has formally clarified the circumstances surrounding his passing, confirming that he died from complications related to advanced metastatic kidney cancer, not liver cancer as initially rumored within the industry.

The statement, issued on behalf of the Ekubo-Okwaraeke family by Mazi Alex Oji Ekubo Okwaraeke, revealed that the 40-year-old actor passed away at Evercare Hospital in Lagos following a courageous but private battle with the illness.
The diagnosis of stage 4 kidney cancer sheds light on his sudden withdrawal from public events and social media platforms since late 2024.
According to the official itinerary released by his family, the funeral arrangements are scheduled as follows:
Service of Songs: holds on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Attendees have been requested to wear white.
Wake-Keep holds on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the family residence in, Abia State.
Funeral Service and Interment holds on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in his hometown of Arochukwu, followed immediately by a reception at the Mary Slessor School in Amanagwu Village.
The family expressed immense gratitude for the overwhelming wave of love, prayers, and tributes offered by colleagues, friends, and fans during this difficult time.
