Last-Minute FIFA Bottle Ban Sparks World Cup Heat Safety Outrage

FIFA is facing intense backlash from heat-safety experts and fan groups after implementing a sudden ban on reusable water bottles just a week before the World Cup begins on June 11.

The updated policy reverses a previous guideline that allowed spectators to bring empty, clear plastic bottles into stadiums, completely prohibiting all personal bottles, cups, jars, and cans to prevent fans from throwing objects onto the pitch.

Health experts warn the decision significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially since 14 of the 16 host stadiums are projected to experience dangerously high temperatures.

While FIFA plans to provide cooling tents, misting stations, and hydration points outside venues alongside stadium water sales, groups like the Free Lions England supporters’ organization have strongly criticized the sudden shift, stating that FIFA violated repeated promises of free water access and personal bottle entry.
