Team Nigeria delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Africa Zone 2 Swimming Championships in Dakar, securing a total of 35 medals in what the Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) has described as the nation’s best outing at the continental competition in over ten years.

The Nigerian contingent concluded the championship with an impressive tally of 17 gold, 14 silver, and four bronze medals spanning both individual and relay events.
In a statement following the final events, the Nigeria Aquatics Federation commended the country’s junior and senior swimmers, alongside the coaching staff and technical officials, for their disciplined execution throughout the tournament.
NAqF President, Lekan Fatodu, praised the impressive medal haul, describing it as a landmark achievement that underscores the ongoing structural growth of aquatic sports in Nigeria.
He particularly highlighted the dominance of the junior swimmers, noting that their performance serves as a strong morale booster ahead of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, scheduled to hold in Dakar from October 30 to November 13.
Fatodu added that the zonal tournament provided the federation with a critical benchmarking opportunity to evaluate young talent and refine preparations for upcoming international events.
