Veteran Actor Olu Jacobs Passes Away at 84

Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, widely known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

The actor’s son, Olusoji Jacobs, announced his passing in an Instagram post on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, stating that the family remains grateful for his life while requesting privacy during their time of grief.

Born in 1942, Jacobs enjoyed a distinguished career spanning over five decades across the

United Kingdom and Nigeria. Following his training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, his early screen credits included classic British television productions such as The Goodies and The Professionals, alongside international feature film appearances.

Returning to Nigeria in the 1980s, Jacobs became a foundational figure in the growth of the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood. Throughout his career, he earned widespread acclaim for his iconic portrayals of authoritative monarchs and patriarchs.

In his later years, the legendary actor faced significant health challenges. In 2021, his wife of nearly four decades, veteran actress Joke Silva, publicly disclosed that Jacobs had been diagnosed with Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB), a progressive neurodegenerative condition, putting an end to years of recurring internet rumors regarding his health status.
