The call-up comes as Nigeria prepares to commence its AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign following their failure to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and a third-place finish at the 2025 AFCON.
While the invitation integrates Osimhen into the national team selection pool, his participation remains uncertain as medical staff monitor his fitness following a recent injury.

Head Coach Eric Chelle faces crucial decisions regarding whether to include the forward in the final squad and whether the striker can withstand competitive action on short notice.
Nigeria is scheduled to host Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 25, before embarking on an away fixture against Guinea-Bissau four days later.
The Super Eagles reside in Group L alongside Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau, and Tanzania—who hold automatic qualification as co-hosts—increasing the competitive stakes for the remaining qualification slot.
