West African football powerhouses Nigeria and Ghana experienced significant setbacks in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaigns following defeats to Guinea-Bissau and The Gambia on Tuesday.

According to a post-match release published on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) official website, Guinea-Bissau secured a 3–0 victory over the Super Eagles in their Group L encounter, while The Gambia staged a second-half comeback to defeat Ghana 4–2 in Group C.
The match outcomes leave both Nigeria and Ghana under early pressure in their respective qualification tables.
Conversely, Guinea-Bissau and The Gambia elevated their standings, each securing a maximum of six points from their opening two group fixtures.
Both regional rivals will now look to reorganize their qualifying strategies ahead of the next round of continental fixtures.
