The judge terminated the proceedings following an application by the Federal Government to withdraw the case in order to transfer the matter to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for fresh arraignment.
Moving the application for discontinuation, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), stated that a comprehensive review of the case file by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) revealed jurisdictional and legal loopholes in the initial charge filed by the Nigeria Police Force.
Oyedepo explained that the key documents allegedly forged by Adeyemi during his operation of the fake council fall under offences properly triable by the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.
He informed the court that a fresh charge had already been filed at the FCT High Court to ensure an expeditious trial.
Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu (SAN), raised no objections to the prosecution’s application, prompting Justice Umar to strike out the charge accordingly.
