The Nigerian contingent arrived back in the country on Monday, October 26, 2026, following a dominant performance that saw Nigeria secure both the overall team title and a clean sweep of the individual podium.

Speaking in Abuja following the team’s arrival, NSF President Bright Idahosa expressed gratitude to NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko for prioritizing the federation’s travel and administrative needs, which ensured the country’s top players could compete at full capacity.

Nigeria extended its historic dominance in continental Scrabble by locking out the top three spots on the individual leaderboard.

Enoch Nwali successfully defended his individual African champion title, while teammates Wellington Jighere and Prince Omosefe finished as first and second runners-up, respectively.

While celebrating the victory, Idahosa issued an earnest appeal to private corporate bodies and brand sponsors to invest in the sport.

He emphasized that sustained public-private partnerships are essential to funding grassroots development programs, youth talent acquisition, and long-term preparation for international tournaments.
