The intervention, which will run for six months beginning in November 2026, was finalized during a conciliation meeting between federal representatives and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in Abuja.
The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, with the NLC delegation led by its President, Joe Ajaero.
Under the terms of the memorandum of understanding signed by both parties, each eligible public servant will receive a total of ₦420,000 over the six-month intervention period ending in April 2027.
As part of the broader resolutions, the Federal Government also agreed to commence the payment of outstanding peculiar allowance arrears—effective from May 1, 2026—starting in November, disbursed across three equal monthly installments.
Furthermore, both parties agreed to immediately constitute the National Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee to begin talks, though the effective implementation date for the new minimum wage framework remains a subject of ongoing debate between government and union negotiators.
State and local governments were also urged to adopt similar transport relief measures for their respective workforces.
