‘Don’t Call My Child Duduke,’ Simi Tells Fans

Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has appealed to the public to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as “Duduke.”

The name gained popularity following the release of Simi’s hit single Duduke in 2020, which she dedicated to her unborn child. After she and her husband, fellow artist Adekunle Gold, welcomed their daughter Adejare in June 2020, fans affectionately began calling the child “Duduke” in reference to the song.

However, in a recent conversation with media personality VJ Adams, Simi expressed her discomfort with the nickname, clarifying that “Duduke” was not meant to be a name.

“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything,” she explained. “Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat—duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum.”

While she acknowledged that fans likely use the nickname with good intentions, Simi emphasized that it doesn’t sit well with her. “Stop calling my child Duduke,” she added with a laugh. “But you know what? I get it, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react.”
