The statement, shared by outgoing president Emeka Rollas on Thursday, addressed the viral news of the incident.

Rollas stated that the tragic accident, which occurred in the Surulere area of Lagos on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, was caused by “unexpected mechanical brake failure.”

The incident, which happened less than 72 hours after Yakubu was elected AGN president on Saturday, claimed the life of a child and injured the child’s mother, who is currently receiving medical care.

Rollas confirmed that Yakubu cooperated fully with law enforcement and emergency responders as a law-abiding citizen.

Yakubu emerged winner of the presidential election after defeating actress Rita Daniels.
