The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has called on leaders in Plateau State to foster unity among the state’s diverse communities in order to end the ongoing wave of violence. NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, made the appeal during his visit to the state on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
This call comes in the wake of a series of brutal attacks that have claimed the lives of over 100 people in the Bokkos and Bassa local government areas over the past two weeks. Armed assailants have continued to wreak havoc, leaving behind a trail of destruction and grief.
In response, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, visited Plateau State on Tuesday and assured residents that those responsible for the horrific killings would be brought to justice.
While President Bola Tinubu and many Nigerians have strongly condemned the violence, opposition leader Peter Obi emphasized that the people of Plateau are weary of mere condemnations and statements. According to him, what they urgently need is real, effective security on the ground.
