Nigeria Set to Host 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Lagos

Nigeria is preparing to become the first sub-Saharan country to host the Commonwealth Fencing Championships scheduled to take place in Lagos from August 9 to 14 2026.

Adeyinka Samuel the President of the Nigeria Fencing Federation confirmed that Rugby School Nigeria will serve as the venue for the tournament which has already seen registrations from over 24 Commonwealth nations.

This event marks the third major international fencing competition hosted by the country following the 23rd African Fencing Championships and the first junior épée World Cup held in Lagos in late 2024.

The hosting rights were formally granted to Nigeria by the Commonwealth Fencing Federation in March 2025 as the nation continues to expand its footprint in the international sporting community.
