Announced on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, the initiative is a collaboration between the NSC, the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), and Gray Insignia Nigeria Limited, aimed at transforming the facility into a world-class training and competition hub.
Commodore Mohammed Shettima, President of the Nigeria Shooting Sports Federation
(NSSF), praised the swift intervention, describing it as a landmark step toward elite athlete performance.
He noted that the project aligns perfectly with the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, particularly the recently launched Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE), which seeks to professionalize sports and drive revenue through private sector partnerships.
Commodore Shettima stated, emphasizing that the modern facility will not only nurture local talent but also position Nigeria as a continental hub for international shooting competitions.
The NSC has further directed the federation to provide a structured list of athletes and officials to ensure the range is managed efficiently and contributes to Nigeria’s goal of winning significant medals on the global stage.
