FG Says No End To National Grid Collapses In Nigeria

The national electricity grid will remain prone to collapse due to the government’s inability to repair a crucial transmission line in northern Nigeria owing to persistent insecurity.
This is according to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who spoke during the 2025 budget defense session with the Senate Joint Committee on Power.
Adelabu highlighted the impact of the damaged Shiroro-Kaduna-Mando line, which has been out of service since a vandalism incident in October 2024. This failure has placed immense pressure on the grid, leading to frequent collapses. CULLED FROM CHANNELS
NASS threatens to remove JAMB from budget

The National Assembly, comprising the Senate and House of Representatives, has threatened to remove the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB in the 2025 budget proposal, saying it was unjustifiable for the board not to remit N4billion to the federation account, despite getting N6bn from the Federal Government in 2024.
According to NASS, the federal government should stop giving JAMB grant and allow it spend what it generates.
The position of the joint committee of NASS was sequel to the presentation by JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, who appeared before the committee, led by Senator Sani Musa, APC, Niger East, to defend the agency’s 2025 budget proposai at an interactive session on ministries, departments and agencies, MDAs’ revenue projections for 2025. Chelle eyes 2026 W’Cup, signs two-year Eagles deal

New Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has expressed his desire to lead Nigeria to the ‘pinnacle of world football’ starting with the ticket to the 2026 World Cup as he takes the reign of the three-time African champions.
Chelle was unveiled on Monday at a brief ceremony at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja by the Nigeria Football Federation, one week after his announcement as the 37th coach of the Super Eagles.
He was handed a two-year deal with an option to extend if he gets the 2026 FIFA World Cup ticket.

Statue of ex-Ghana President Akufo-Addo destroyed

A statue of Ghana’s immediate former President, Nana Akufo-Addo, put up at the end of last year has been destroyed.
The unveiling by Akufo-Addo of his own likeness in November in the country’s Western Region sparked a social media backlash, as well as being mocked and described as “self-glorification”.
Its launch had been in honour of the president’s development initiatives.
On Monday, local media shared images showing the statue in a ruined state, with its severed head lying on the ground. It is not clear who had targeted the sculpture or what the motive was. CULLED FROM BBC

AGN debunks fake reports

The Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, has refuted reports making the rounds that its National President, Emeka Rollas, was arrested and detained by the police in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
It was reported that Rollas was arrested over the weekend for his alleged role in the imposition of an unelected chairman on the Abia State chapter of the AGN.
However, in a statement by its spokesman, Cornel Udofia, the AGN refuted the reported arrest, describing it as malicious and unfounded.
