The Senator made the disclosure in a statement to newsmen while reacting to the escalating controversy and widespread public criticism surrounding the recent breakdown of their six-year marriage.
The public spat began two weeks ago when Regina Daniels reportedly called out Senator Nwoko over allegations of domestic violence, declaring she was no longer interested in the marriage.
In a counter-response, Senator Nwoko accused Regina of substance abuse and insisted that the actress must comply with professional treatment at a rehabilitation center.
The exchange sparked significant controversy among Nigerians and celebrities, many of whom heavily criticized Senator Nwoko for allegedly marrying Regina when she was 17 years old and subsequently called for his resignation from the Senate.
Addressing the allegations and calls for his resignation, Nwoko presented a different narrative of how the marriage began.
In his statement, the Senator vehemently denied marrying Regina at the age of 17, and claimed he had “witnesses” to confirm that Regina Daniels’ mother, Rita Daniels, was the one who brought her daughter to him for the purpose of marriage.
The public exchange continues to dominate social commentary, bringing intense scrutiny to the dynamics of marriage and the responsibilities of public figures. CULLED FROM DAILYPOST
