The Sokoto State Government on Friday organized a special prayer session seeking peace, unity and national development in Nigeria, amid ongoing security and socio-economic challenges facing the country.
The prayer session was held at the Sultan Bello Jumu’at Mosque in Sokoto, shortly after the weekly Jumu’at prayers, as part of efforts to promote peaceful coexistence and national cohesion.
Leading the prayers, the Chief Imam of the Sultan Bello Jumu’at Mosque, Sheikh Malami Bello Akwara, called on Allah to intervene in Nigeria’s affairs, particularly in addressing insecurity and other obstacles hindering the nation’s progress.
Also speaking during the session, the Sarkin Malaman Sokoto, Sheikh Yahaya Na Malam Boyi, prayed for divine protection and guidance for Nigeria’s leaders, urging that they be granted wisdom to steer the country toward stability and prosperity.
He also offered prayers for Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu, asking Allah to continue guiding him in his efforts to develop and transform the state.
The special prayer session was attended by Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto and his deputy, Idris Mohammed Gobir, as well as former Deputy Governor Mukhtar Shagari. Other dignitaries present included the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Tukur Bala Bodinga; the Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaid; and several traditional title holders.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Kabir Ibrahim Kware; the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Isa Sadiq Achida; members of the legislature; the Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa; and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Aminu Haliru Dikko.
Commissioners, special advisers, senior special assistants, top government officials, politicians and other dignitaries also participated in the prayer session, which organizers said was aimed at fostering unity and peaceful coexistence in the country.
