TETFund Plans to Distribute N700bn to Universities

TETFund mandate members of NANS to henceforth help in monitoring projects executed in various institutions across the country.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the disbursement of over N700bn to tertiary institutions through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in 2025. Each university is set to receive N2.8bn from the fund.

TETFund Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, made the announcement during the 2025 Strategic Planning Meeting with heads of tertiary institutions in Abuja on Thursday.

Echono provided details on the allocation, explaining that 91.08% of the funds would be distributed directly. This includes 48.90% for annual direct disbursements and 42.18% for special direct disbursements. An additional 8.72% is designated for specific projects, while 0.20% will go towards stabilisation funds.

As part of the annual direct disbursement, universities will receive N2.8bn, polytechnics N1.9bn, and colleges of education N2.1bn, according to Echono.

He also noted that the expansion of intervention activities aligns with national priorities in the Education Sector Road Map under President Tinubu’s administration, led by Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa. Additionally, the government has directed that 2025 funding for physical infrastructure development be focused on upgrading, rehabilitating, and renovating dilapidated facilities in the benefiting institutions.
