President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Imam Abdullahi Abubakar, the Chief Imam of Nghar village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing him as a courageous servant of God and a symbol of peace and humanity.

Imam Abubakar, who died at the age of 92, rose to national and international prominence in 2018 after he hid and protected over 200 Christians during violent communal clashes in parts of Plateau State. His action at the height of the crisis was widely hailed as an extraordinary act of interfaith solidarity and selfless bravery.
In a condolence message issued by the State House, President Tinubu said the late cleric’s life was a powerful testament to faith, courage and a firm belief in the sanctity of human life.
The President noted that at a time when ethnic and religious sentiments threatened to overwhelm reason, Imam Abubakar chose the path of peace, conscience and compassion, despite the enormous risk to his own life.
According to Tinubu, the late Imam deliberately placed humanity above division, love above hatred and unity above intolerance, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire Nigerians across religious and ethnic lines.
The President described Imam Abubakar as a moral compass in moments of fear and darkness, adding that his heroic actions would remain a lasting reminder that Nigerians share a common humanity beyond religious and cultural differences.
President Tinubu extended his condolences to the family of the late cleric, the people of Nghar village, and the Government and people of Plateau State, as well as the Nigerian Muslim community.
He also prayed that Almighty Allah forgive the late Imam’s shortcomings, grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and comfort all those mourning his passing.
