A traditional ruler and the District Head of Gagi in Sokoto state, Alhaji Sani Umar-Jabbi has cautioned youths against blind political support and violence.
He said youths must see themselves as agents of peace, unity and stability at all times not destruction.
” You should not mortgage your integrity, morals and conscience for stipends from unpatriotic politicians who will use and dump you for their aspirations”, he stressed.
Umar-Jabbi made the remarks with serious appeal weekend when he received some youths who visited him in his palace, urging them to disassociate themselves from politicians that promote thuggery and other forms of violence.
According to him “some politicians might be sponsoring youths to foment troubles as the elections draw nearer through various means.
” Political violence cripple youths progress, economic and infrastructural development, which shall be discouraged by all sundry minds” Umar-Jabbi said.
The monarch called on politicians and government officials to discouraged restiveness and promote healthy democracy through proper understanding that would be instrumental to community development.
In his remarks, the leader of the youths, Abubakar Muhammad, promised that they would not be involved in any political violence which could cause disturbances among communities.
“We assure you that we will only engage ourselves in meaningful activities which can promote economic development and improve our living condition”. Muhammad said.
He commended the monarch for his contributions to youths empowerment in the area and urged other traditional rulers to emulate Umar-Jabbi in doing good for sustainable development of the state.
Meanwhile, Sokoto state Commissioner of Police, Mr Murtala Mani has disclosed that over 200 persons were being prosecuted over offences related to political restiveness.
