The National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) says about One Thousand Six Hundred corps members will be deployed by the scheme on ad-hoc arrangement for the Wamakko/Kware Federal Constituency bye-election in Sokoto state.
The development followed a MoU signed between the scheme and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.
The commission had fixed October 28th, 2017 for the bye-election to fill the vacant seat created in the House of Representatives by the death of its member.
Briefing newsmen in Sokoto Tuesday evening, the scheme’s State Coordinator, Alhaji Abubakar Musa said arrangement has been concluded for the scheme to support the smooth and successful conduct of the civic exercise.
According to him” we are therefore deploying 160 corps members for the exercise on Saturday.”
The bye- election followed the demise of Representative Abdullahi Wamakko(APC-Sokoto) in July this year as a result of illness.
However, Musa also appealed to host institutions where corps members carry out their primary assignments to not only accommodate but see them as members of their family by taking care of their welfare inorder to make them more productive.
While saying that he would not hesitate to deploy them from where they are being badly treated to a better place where their welfare is guaranteed added” without prioritising their welfare, the best cannot be tapped from them and they may feel dirfferent, thus discouraging them from been active members of the scheme”, he pointed out.
The state Coordinator described corps members as important and integral part of the development driven force that can always be relied on in building the bridges of peace, unity and stability in the country.
” They need to be encouraged and supported to get the best out of them especially at this trying moments of our national history” he noted.
