Mohbad’s Family Bans Widow Wunmi from Using ‘Aloba’ Surname Amid Paternity Dispute

The formal ban comes amid the ongoing and heated paternity dispute regarding their son, Liam, following the singer’s controversial death on September 12, 2023.

The restriction was announced in an official statement jointly signed by the family head, Omolayo Aloba, and the late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba.

The family stipulated that Wunmi is formally barred from using the Aloba name pending the outcome of a DNA test intended to confirm the paternity of Liam.

The family argued that Wunmi was never legally married to Mohbad, noting: “For the avoidance of doubt, no statutory or customary marriage was contracted between the late Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo, as the required Yoruba traditional rites (payment of bride price) were never completed.”

In the same statement, the Aloba family named Oladayo Ogungbe as their sole legal representative specifically for the DNA case and matters concerning Mohbad’s estate.

They clarified that Wahab Shittu will continue to handle all matters related to investigative authorities concerning the singer’s death.

The family concluded by adding that both the child and Wunmi would be included in the estate administration process once the DNA test confirms Liam as Mohbad’s biological son.
