U.S. Triples Self-Deportation Stipend to $3,000 for the Holidays

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a significant increase in financial incentives for undocumented immigrants who choose to leave the country voluntarily before the end of the year.

Under the new “Home for the Holidays” initiative, the voluntary exit stipend has been tripled from $1,000 to $3,000. In addition to the cash payment, the government is offering free one-way flights to the recipients’ home countries and the forgiveness of any civil fines or penalties related to their illegal stay.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the policy change on Monday, describing it as a cost-effective alternative to formal deportation, which can cost taxpayers an average of $17,000 per person.

To qualify, individuals must register through the newly rebranded CBP Home mobile app (formerly CBP One) and finalize their departure by December 31, 2025.

Secretary Noem issued a stern warning alongside the offer, stating that those who do not take advantage of this “limited-time gift” will face aggressive enforcement, arrest, and a permanent ban from returning to the United States.
