The Nigerian government has introduced a new screening hurdle for aspiring civil servants: mandatory drug testing.

In a directive issued Monday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), all federal agencies and parastatals must now require a clean toxicology report before confirming any new employment.
This policy is framed as a “sanitization” of the public sector, aimed at protecting national security and workplace productivity from the rising tide of substance abuse.
By making drug clearance a non-negotiable prerequisite, the government hopes to foster a more disciplined workforce and set a standard for integrity within the federal administration.
