Nigeria, US Joint Airstrikes Eliminate 175 Islamic State Militants in Northeast

A collaborative military operation between Nigeria and the United States has resulted in the elimination of 175 Islamic State fighters in Nigeria’s northeastern region.

The Nigerian military confirmed that the joint airstrikes inflicted a severe blow on the terrorist networks, successfully destroying several strategic insurgent targets.

In an official statement, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, noted that the extensive operations had effectively cleared the militants from the battlefield.

The death toll was separately corroborated by a spokesperson for the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM).

Testifying before a Congressional hearing in Washington, AFRICOM Commander General Dagvin Anderson praised the partnership, emphasizing that Nigerian forces were crucial over the past few months in gathering intelligence, developing the targets, and providing necessary operational support to ensure the mission’s success.
