A former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and one time Finance Minister , Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji( Sardauna of Sokoto) is dead.
The passing of the elder statesman was confirmed by family members on Thursday in Abuja.
The deceased fondly called “Triple A” served as Minister of Finance between 1985 and 1986 during the administration of former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida.
He was also a former SGF, and High Commissioner to the UK.
A thorough- bred administrator , Abubakar Alhaji held several other key positions in the civil service and corporate sector duri g his career .
Hitherto, he held one of the revered title holders of ” Sardauna ” in the Caliphate and played major roles in community development ,diplomacy and national affairs.
Meanwhile, tributes have continued to turn in from across the country including those from political leaders , traditional rulers and associates among other highly pla ed institutions describing him as a patriot,excellent administrators and bridge builder for Nigeria’s unity.
Funeral arrangements in line with islamic rites are expected to be announced by the family.
He died at 87.
